The Garbara property is located in the heart of the typical wine zone known as Cartizze near Valdobbiadene, on the hill that stretches from S. Stefano to Saccol, an area already known as “ Cartice ” in the year 1400.
The Cartizze hill overlooks and gives its name to the 104-hectar DOC area whose boundaries were legally set out in April 1969 by Presidential decree, to define the birthplace of this well-loved wine.
The terrain is geologically made up of different chalky, sandy and claggy layers which settled on the sea beds 15-20 million years ago, and were subsequently raised by the orogenic movements of the time to form the modern-day hills. Testimony to this ancient past is found in the numerous fossils that are still frequently uncovered among the vines.
The Cartizze area, visible on even the oldest land registry maps of Treviso, maintains a tradition of vine cultivation going back a thousand years. Its craggy chalky terrain, facing South-East captures the warm spring sun and shelters the vines from the high temperatures of the hot summer afternoons.
The soil is dry and rich in microelements, minerals and metals which give the grapes grown on this land their characteristic and unique flavours, with great variety and balance. The bunches are sparse and the grapes themselves are small, aromatic, and exceptionally sweet.
